Converter

Converter use: Step-by-step illustration

Using the converter is rather straightforward. The following screenshots show every necessary step. Only the inspection of source and produced target files, which a user might do outside of the converter, is spared.

Screenshots are taken on a machine with MS Windows 2000. The SWT GUI of the converter assimilates look and feel of the current operation system.  Thus, on e.g. Windows XP, the User Interface looks very similar to a Windows XP application.

In order to make the use comfortable, assignments (necessary because some formats have closed lists for units and some not - see details) can be stored and edited.

The converter can be executed for single files as well as in batch mode.

1. Selecting the source format data set, choosing batch or single file mode
2. Selecting the file
3. The source format is recognised, and the target format can be selected
4. Folder to store the metadocument and the converted dataset(s) is selected
5a: Assignment of units: Start (target format is ELCD, this requires the assignment)
5b: Assignment of units: Finish
5c: The assignment can then be saved...
5d: ..and it can be reloaded later (in a next conversion)
6: During the conversion process, the converter sends status messages to the GUI, thus informing about the progress and a successful end. This is important in batch mode. Converting one dataset takes only several seconds.
