Preparations before you start

Installation of openLCA is straightforward; before you start, however, make sure the following requirements are met by the machine (computer) where you plan to install:

Software requirements:

  • As a Java application, the application requires a Java runtime environment, JRE, with version 1.6 or higher. On many modern computers, this should already be installed. You can verify your Java version, under Windows, via the control panel (in German: Systemsteuerung), in the Java Control Panel.

If needed, you can download and install a newer JRE version from www.sun.com, or from www.java.com/en/download/windows_manual.jsp.

  • the firewall needs to allow MySQL (the database) and openlca.exe (the application) to start.
  • the current release is compiled for Windows systems (Windows 2000 or higher) only.

Hardware requirements:

We recommend the following hardware configuration:

  • CPU with 2 GHz or higher
  • 2 GB Ram
  • 500 MB free hard disk space (depending on the amount of data you want to store)

Extracting the application

Once you have received the application (as a zip file), unzip the file to a directory, and run the openLCA.exe application. That’s already everything concerning the installation!
