The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is a non-profit organisation and industry association, with members in every major steel-producing country and covering 85% of the world’s total steel output. Since 1996, worldsteel works on its worldwide life cycle inventory (LCI) study for steel products, in accordance with the worldsteel LCI methodology report and ISO standards 14040 and 14044.

The latest update of the LCI database was released in May 2026. It is based on data contributions from over 160 facilities worldwide and encompasses 16 key steel products, including hot-rolled coil, plate, rebar, galvanised steel, and tinplate, serving all primary industrial sectors.

The datasets were mapped to openLCA reference system, and they can be used with the openLCA LCIA method package as well as other databases available on Nexus.
